I recorded “Reset” last April on a cruise I took to the Bahamas by myself. It was one of the stranger experiences of my life. I guess I’ve been out of the school game so long that I didn’t realize that April is not only spring break, but that Carnival cruise line is a popular family cruise. There were a few “adult only” areas of the ship that felt like the silence before the storm, which is not the most relaxing feeling. I retreated to my cabin often to write or record. This is also when I started reading the Wheel of Time book series which has neatly pilfered my time over the past 7 months, leaving me with only a few songs written this year.
This song might sound a little sad or regretful, but I think it’s actually a very happy song. I wrote it a year or two ago when reflecting on how peaceful it is to accept the hand that you have been dealt, and to do so with love. “Reset” also includes my fanciest instrumentation EVER (eat you’re heart out, people with coordinated fingers) and some well meaning horns that need to be corrected one day. Enjoy.
