Once upon a time, there was a small, lonely tornado. Tornadoes, as a rule, were generally not very social. They mostly kept to themselves – only very occasionally would you see one spending quality time with another. And, for the most part, the tornadoes were fine with this.
Except for one.
He was lonely. He tried to make friends with other tornado children, but they shied away from him. He tried to make friends with the storm clouds, but they thundered at him. He even tried to make friends with a group of ducks, but he blew away their pond and they quacked angrily at him and flew away.
The lonely tornado wandered around, sad and alone. One day, he came across some people in a town! He floated shyly up to them to say hello, but as soon as they saw him they ran away and hid in their houses. They were all afraid of him. The lonely tornado was so sad that he blew into a shed to be alone and cry, away from the frightened faces of the townspeople. But when he got into the shed he realized he wasn’t alone. There was a small red-haired girl and her family in the shed too! The lonely tornado flew to the corner of the shed in the shadows so he wouldn’t have to see more people afraid of him. The girl’s family hid in the other corner, afraid of the tornado, but the girl stayed where she was.
“Hello?” she called to the tornado, “Are you okay?”
She started to walk towards him but her family called her back, saying it was dangerous.
“Now stop that,” she said sternly to her family, “Can’t you see he’s sad?”
She turned back to the tornado and held out her hand.
“It’s okay little tornado, I won’t hurt you.”
The tornado crept out of the shadows toward the little girl. She held out her arms and he’s sparked with happiness and rushed into them. The little red-haired girl hugged him tight. The tornado with overjoyed! Finally, he had found a friend. From then on, the little red-haired girl was loved by all tornadoes, and the small lonely tornado was lonely no more.
